Theodore Nicholas Javo

Savannah- Theodore Nicholas Javo passed away peacefully at home in Savannah, Georgia on March 3, 2014. Mr. Javo was born in Savannah on September 24, 1915, to Mary George Polaris Javo and Nicholas Theodore Javo. He was educated in Savannah schools and played football for Savannah High. He was a member of the City League softball championship teams, where he was the lead-off batter and played short stop and second base. An overall excellent athlete, Ted participated in basketball, softball, tennis, volleyball, football and later, golf.

He married Victoria Petras of Birmingham in 1941, and soon was deployed to Camp Pendleton with the 4th Marine Division. He and his bride lived in San Diego until he was sent to the Pacific Theatre where he saw action in Tinian and Saipan in the Marianna and Marshall Islands. He was a member of "The Greatest Generation". After active duty, he served in the Army Reserves for many years. Ted joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1936, serving as Chief Accountant of Finance. He retired in 1976. He was a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. A very good baritone, he was a member of the Savannah Male Chorus in his youth and a member of his church choir from age 15. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church on Bull Street. He enjoyed doing volunteer work at The Greek Festival for many years. He was an enthusiastic gardener and raised prize winning Camellias as a member of the Camellia Society of Savannah.

Ted will be greatly missed by his children, Ellery Inglesby Bill, Nicholas Javo, Dana Alderman and four grandchildren, Meredith Inglesby Blanchard Steve, Gary Javo Jessica, Catherine Inglesby, and Ross Alderman. He is also survived by two great granddaughters, Victoria Warren Wren Blanchard and Katelyn Victoria Javo. The family is grateful to his devoted caregivers, the late Betty Anne Lee, Mary Anne Robinson, Sandra Anderson, Ramona Anderson, and Sherri Robinson, for their kindness, patience, and wonderful care of our father.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

Remembrances may be made to St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church, 14 West Anderson Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401.

Wonderful memories with the family....it seems each time they were all together when I was with them, on a trip to Tybee, in Vicky's kitchen filled with wonderful aromas, they sang together...the happiest and most generous family I knew.
